History

The Hoffman family has been farming outside of Earlville, Illinois for over 100 years and has gone through many transitions to adapt to a changing landscape in farming while staying true to their roots. Primarily a dairy farm featuring Milking Shorthorn and Dutch Belted cattle through the 1990s, Ben's late father, Kenneth began pursuing organic certification for soybean production in 1998 to diversify the farm's products and lean into his pesticide-free goals. Ben's brother, Paul, continues this tradition and has expanded the organic crop rotation to include wheat, corn, sunflowers, soybeans, and a variety of specialty and cover crops as well as pasture-raised lambs under the Blustery Knoll name. Kenneth's wife, Winifred continues to manage the dual purpose cattle herd for the sale of breeding stock for small farmers across the country. Hoffman Organic Farm began in 2022 when Ben sought to expand the family garden to a larger scale to share wholesome local produce with the community.
